They do not answer the same question. Copilot or Gemini help each person in their own tools; process mining measures what your software logs; an assessment interviews the teams about all their work, off-system included, to choose what to automate. The three can be combined.
Key takeaways
- Copilot and Gemini help each person in their tools; they do not map processes.
- Process mining measures what is logged, and only that.
- An assessment chooses what to automate from the work actually done; it estimates, it does not measure.
Three approaches, three questions

Before comparing prices, compare the questions. Each approach sees part of the work; none sees all of it.
| Approach | The question | What it needs | Public price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Copilot or Gemini | How do we help each person in their tools? | Licences; the teams still have to find the uses | Copilot Business: €15.60 to €18.20 excl. VAT per user per month; Gemini included in Google Workspace Business Standard, €13.60 excl. VAT per user per month |
| Process mining | What do our software logs show? | An event log: case ID, activity, timestamp | Power Automate Premium, $15 per user per month, plus $5,000 per month per tenant for the process mining add-on (Microsoft) |
| Assessment | Where will AI save time, and where should we start? | Interview time with the people who do the work | Bpifrance’s Diag Data IA: €6,000 excl. VAT payable after funding; SHIFTLABS Diagnostic: from €12k excl. VAT |
When Copilot or Gemini is enough

To draft, summarise, search: individual assistance is immediate and inexpensive per user. Microsoft’s dashboard tracks readiness, adoption, impact and sentiment around Copilot; its full views require at least 50 licences. It tracks users, not processes.
In France, 40% of very small and small businesses used AI tools in 2026, but 9% use them to automate tasks (France Num 2026 barometer, Crédoc report): individual use comes first, automation later.
When process mining is the right tool
Learn more
When work runs through a well-kept ERP or CRM, process mining measures where an assessment estimates: it rebuilds the process as logged, with its variants and bottlenecks. It needs an event log, often to be extracted with IT.
It does not see what leaves no trace: emails, spreadsheets, phone calls. In France, task mining, which observes workstations, requires works council information and consultation on means of monitoring employees’ activity (article L2312-38 of the Labour Code).
When an assessment comes first
Learn more
When you do not yet know what to automate. An assessment starts from the work actually done, described by those who do it and validated by an expert, off-system included; it costs use cases and says which one to start with. Its limit: it estimates from what people report, it does not measure. Its figures are an identified potential.
The homepage comparison sets six approaches side by side, with the limit of each and, in its detail, what each does better than us; its sources and their dates are on the Sources and methods page. For a first benchmark before buying anything: the self-assessment.
Combine them, in this order

We build simple agents, at a published price; for deep integration or a platform, Copilot Studio, Workspace Studio and integrators go further.
- First the assessment, to choose the tasks that matter.
- Then the right tool for each: Copilot or Gemini for individual help, a built agent for a repetitive task, Copilot Studio or Workspace Studio to go further.
- Finally the measurement: before and after, on the tasks chosen, and process mining where logs exist.
Frequently asked questions
Can Copilot replace an assessment?
They do different things. Copilot helps one person in their tools, and its dashboard tracks Copilot adoption. It does not say which of the company’s tasks take the most hours, or which to start with.
Is process mining within reach of an SME?
Yes, if its processes run through software that keeps a log and someone can extract the event log. At Microsoft, the add-on costs $5,000 per month per tenant, on top of Power Automate Premium licences.
Do you need an assessment before buying licences?
Not for individual use. Before automating, yes: without a record of the work actually done, you choose the tool before the problem, and no gain can be proven afterwards.
Is an interview-based assessment reliable?
It rests on what people report: that is its limit. An expert reviews and validates every summary, every figure carries its status, and the real gain is measured after go-live.
